Yerba mate, whose scientific name is Ilex Paraguariensis, is a South American tree species whose ground leaves are used to prepare the infusion called mate. It is an ancestral guaraní drink and is the national drink of Argentina and Uruguay. 99% of its inhabitants drink mate daily and it is estimated that approximately 335 million kilos of yerba used between the two countries are discarded per year.

La yerba mate, cuyo nombre científico es Ilex Paraguariensis,  es una especie arbórea sudamericana de la cual se utilizan sus hojas molidas para preparar la infusión denominada mate. Es una bebida ancestral guaraní y es la bebida nacional de Argentina y Uruguay. El 99% de sus habitantes  toma mate diariamente y se calcula que se descartan por año  aproximadamente 335 millones de kilos de yerba usada entre ambos países.
