Dr. Erinc Bahçegül

Scientific Lead

Erinç is a materials scientist with a background in chemical engineering and biotechnology, specializing in the development of sustainable materials from renewable resources. For over a decade, he has led projects spanning the formulation, processing, testing, and scale-up of biodegradable materials derived from agricultural residues, plant-based biopolymers, agro-industrial by-products, and seaweeds - primarily targeting sustainable packaging applications. His expertise includes adapting conventional plastic processing techniques to novel formulations based on natural polymers. Before joining Materiom, Erinç was the Research Lead at Notpla - winners of The Earthshot Prize - where he led R&D efforts on seaweed-based packaging solutions. He is an inventor on patents related to sustainable materials and has authored publications on biorefinery processes and renewable material innovation.
