Computational MaterialS Scientist

Fiona is a Computational Materials Scientist, working at the intersection of molecular simulation, machine learning, and sustainable materials design. She holds a PhD from Imperial College London, where she developed stimuli-responsive polymers using coarse-grained molecular dynamics and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, focusing on structure–property relationships in soft matter and polymeric systems. Her expertise lies in multi-scale simulation, polymer informatics, data-driven materials modeling, and the development of reproducible computational workflows. Prior to Materiom, Fiona was an R&D Engineer at Ansys, where she designed automated data pipelines integrating physics-based and data-driven approaches for industrial R&D. Earlier in her career, she gained hands-on experience with polymer processing and composite materials at Airbus, and contributed to structural simulations for the Ariane 6 rocket at ArianeGroup. Working closely with high-performance but fundamentally non-recyclable materials made her acutely aware of the need for sustainable alternatives, and set her on the path towards bio-based and regenerative materials science.
